Nuisible

Presentation: Hi! My name is Nuisible, I’m a monster maker. I was born in the late 90s, and I’ve been painting on walls for a little over 10 years. My monsters come to life in the dark corners of my city and tend to spread as much as possible. Origin: I come from Brussels, the capital of Belgium. I was born here and have never left. The future might prove me wrong, but for now I’m quite happy to rot here. How is the art scene in your country: Let’s say we can consider ourselves lucky! Brussels has a really great energy when it comes to art, especially illustration and comics. The graffiti scene isn’t lagging behind either — we’re lucky to have some incredible pieces on trains. I recommend anyone with an hour to kill during the day to go to the end of a platform at Gare du Midi and enjoy this wild gallery. What are your motivations and inspirations in your artistic development: To me, there’s no greater inspiration than daily life and the experiences that shape me. I love observing everything around me, imagining what comes next in the stories I hear, and I’m lucky to be surrounded by incredibly talented people. It’s this subtle mix of curiosity, conversations about reinventing the world, and those solitary moments facing my own fears or doubts that shape my work. How did you start? I’ve always drawn. My grandmother was probably one of the first to put a paintbrush and colored pencils in my hands, proudly hanging my hundreds of snakes and dinosaurs on the walls of her house. As for graffiti, that started around the age of 16. A school workshop opened a door, and a few days later I found myself in a tunnel under the tracks of my neighborhood’s train station, painting my first piece. Do you have any hobbies? Things you particularly enjoy doing? I really love walking — I wander both through the streets of my city and alone in the forest. I think it’s a great way to reflect, face your own thoughts, and discover yourself. Otherwise, I love going wild in the pit at punk or hardcore concerts. Another excellent way to let your energy out, though a bit more violent. Do you consider yourself a full-time artist? I don’t make a living from it — I’m trying to get there, but the road is long and tough. Still, isn’t an artist constantly creating or putting their creative mind to work? I think we’re all a bit full-time, whether we like it or not. What are your life goals ? To live off my creations, to wake up in the morning and be happy about the day ahead. I hope to one day become that strange old man in his studio, surrounded by hundreds of quirky creations and ready to tell their stories to anyone willing to listen. The best advice for the next generation? Do things! Whether they’re useful or not, smart or not, allowed or not — just do them! It’s the best way to move forward, to learn, and to discover. Don’t try to show off at all costs and learn to enjoy the selfish joy of something only you will ever see. And don’t be afraid to step outside the lines — you’ll be judged for it, but that’s the price of freedom.
